About the Author
About the Author

Pete Bowell has served as Senior Associate and Co-founding
Pastor of Hope Church in Richmond, Virginia, for 28 years. He is married to Meg. They have three grown children, and he is proud “Poppy” to three grandchildren. He is saved by grace.

What holds you? What is your routine? Our routines are what define us. They keep us going through thick and thin. In the church, we call this “liturgy.” It is our pattern of worship. Our liturgy is our worship, prayer, and creeds. It is what holds us when we feel lost or unsure what to say or sing to God.

Our liturgy goes beyond Sunday morning worship. By candlelight, flashlight, or firelight, we keep doing God’s work even if the rest of the world feels like giving up. Our liturgy is not some dull or dusty routine in the church. It’s our fireman’s carry, lifting people to hope again until they have the strength to stand on their own. Liturgy is living water to our soul, and it matters more than you may know.

Praise for Hope for a Season

I’ve worked in close partnership and friendship with Pete Bowell for more than 30 years. Pete lives in and through the Scriptures. He reads the bible, sits with its content and prays and journals about it. He’s also the most gifted person I have ever known in connecting with people. I’m excited that he has now put many of his reflections in writing. In this book of devotional content you’ll experience Pete’s precise insights from decades of important ministry at the intersection of God’s love and our humanity.

David Dwight - Senior Pastor, Hope Church, Richmond Virginia and Co-Author of "Start Here”

A few years ago, I began the practice of pausing in the middle of my work to notice how Jesus was present with me in the moments of my day. Pete’s book will become part of that pause. He so beautifully uses scripture and story to remind the reader that you are not alone and that the uncomfortable, broken, messy seasons are exactly the places Jesus does his best work. These short readings inject hope into my soul and allow me to take a deep breath of grace.

Nina Edwards - Senior Director, National Training, Youth For Christ USA and Co-Author of "Three Story Bible"

Hope for a Season’s storytelling is a breath of fresh air. This is not a stagnant devotional but one that constantly reminds us of a God who is kind, dynamic, and ever present. Bowell navigates the complexities of belief with unwavering honesty, urging us to confront our humanity and embrace a faith that is authentic and true.

Katie Nielsen - Hope Students Lead Pastor and iEQ9 Accredited Enneagram Practitioner

It's been said that you can't lead people to where you haven't been yourself. In 'Hope for a Season,' Pete Bowell doesn't merely relay theological concepts about Jesus; he draws from the well of his own profound relationship with Him. Through this devotional, Pete invites us on a behind-the-scenes tour of his life, welcoming us onto his front porch and guiding us through the valleys and mountaintops of his faith journey. It is in these sacred spaces that he illuminates God's generous invitation to our souls. Come, take a seat on the front porch with Pete, and discover hope.

Wes Peterson - Executive Pastor, Hope Church, Richmond, Virginia and Chairman of World Outreach Evangelical Presbyterian Church

Thoughtful and impactful! I love Pete's ability to stay Bible-based in a way that is still accessible to us all so truth can pierce our hearts. In this devotional you'll see scripture delivered in a thoroughly authentic way so that it can do more than impress our minds, it can transform us from the inside. This has quickly become a part of my morning routine with the Lord!

Brandon Samuel - Senior Pastor, The Chapel, Richmond Virginia
