The HCML is a community of Christian leaders committed to cultivating and commissioning future missional leaders to fulfill Christ’s calling. The HCML is embedded in the life of Hope Church, in Richmond, Virginia. It is one program with two tracks: The GreenHouse – for post-college students seeking to be formed by Christ in a season of transition; and Residency – for people who sense a call to church, parachurch, or missional ministry in various forms.

Whether on the GreenHouse or Residency track, the typical week for a participant includes lots of time with each other, home life with a host family, real meaningful work in ministry, and many gatherings for spiritual input and training.

The time that participants spend in the HCML will have an impact on the eighty years that follow. We look to train participants in a philosophy of ministry that is founded on biblical principles of discipleship.

The Place

Richmond, Virginia, known as the “River City,” boasts a rich history dating back to its founding in 1737. The capital city is a top destination for art, culture, history, travel, and bustling with many fun activities to explore.

HCML GreenHouse

The GreenHouse is for post-college students seeking to be formed by Christ in a season of transition. This program is a nine-month commitment.

HCML Residency

Residency is for people who sense a call to church, parachurch, or missional ministry in various forms. Residents may spend up to three years in this program.

Men and women ages 20+ seeking to deepen their roots in Christ and have a desire to serve in His kingdom wherever he may call.

  • The GreenHouse –  for post college students seeking to be formed by Christ in a season of transition (nine-month commitment)
  • Residency – for people who sense a call to church, parachurch or missional ministry in various forms (maximum three-year residency)

Are there any specific qualifications in order to apply for the HCML?

Participants must be in agreement with the Christian core beliefs and commitments defined in the “7 Essentials.”

Will this all be at Hope Church RVA?

Both tracks of the HCML are located and take place at the church.  Participants in the GreenHouse track will be serving part-time with a local business or ministry partner in the Richmond area.

Is this paid?

GreenHouse and Residents at Hope Church have the unique opportunity to engage with a community of supporters through fundraising. This allows them to create meaningful connections and gain valuable support for their journey with us. Hope Church is committed to enriching this experience by providing specialized coaching and training to equip HCML Residents with the necessary skills for effective fundraising.

For GreenHouse: Hope Church will place GreenHouse participants in host homes and provide meals at various activities.  The small amount of $6,000 raised by the participant covers other costs such as material, travel, and training for the nine months.

For Residents: Hope Church also takes the first step in supporting residents by contributing a significant amount for the first year of ministry including support for seminary training. Be sure to contact us to learn more at hcml@hopecentral.com

How many hours per week is this?

Both tracks are 40-45 hrs /week.

Can I still be in school while in the HCML community?

Participants may be current students in an undergraduate or master’s program depending on the track and the participant’s availability to engage in the activities.

What if I don’t have a car to use?

As a GreenHouse participant or resident, your work is not just inside the building of Hope Church.  You are required to have a vehicle to be able to get to various locations around Richmond.

What if I don’t live in Richmond?

Please specify this on your application, and we will place you in a host home.  The homes are vetted and trusted members of Hope Church.
